SOHO RECORD SHOP ‘ON THE BEAT’ UP FOR SALE ON EBAY – VINYL INCLUDED
One careful owner wanted for Soho institution.
The owner of an independent record shop in central London has put his whole business – including thousands of vinyl records – up for sale on eBay.
On The Beat Records was opened by Tim Derbyshire in 1979 on Hanway Street, near Tottenham Court Road. Almost 35 years later it’s still going, selling anything from ’60s psychedelia to ’90s grunge with funk, soul, jazz, folk, country and library music along the way. In fact, “everything but classical”, says Derbyshire.
Now he’s advertising for a new owner on eBay, explaining to Time Out that the shop “needs someone younger”. “But the buyer must be passionate about music, or it will lose its identity,” says Derbyshire.
The eBay listing admits the shop may be a labour of love rather than a lucrative investment, stating: “If you’re at the stage in your life when you don’t have to worry about making money but can live the bohemian life […] here’s your chance to take over the oldest record shop in the centre of Swinging London.”
If you fancy living the High Fidelity life and you’ve got £300,000 to spare, bidding ends on November 25. See inside the shop here.

The Robbie Boyd Band - I Won’t Let You Go (Official Video)

I had the pleasure of meeting Robbie and his band at the Portobello Market in London on Saturday. I really liked the performance and they seemed really happy when I came up to them and said that I will make a post about their music…

So people please reblog or like this post and show him your support!!! They seemed like such nice chaps and I would love to see them go further with their music.
